Self-care is something that everyone should practice every day. Whether it’s writing in a journal, going for a walk, or meditating, self-care is important for one’s overall mental health.
Just so we are clear, the selfies you see of women on Instagram taking bubble baths and sipping champagne is not what self-care is all about.
Still, I see nothing wrong with pampering oneself and as a matter of fact, everyone should do so from time to time.
While I personally would love to go to a spa every week to get pampered, it’s just not economical for me.
A day at the spa can be costly!
That does not mean however, that I can’t do a spa day at home for a little “pamper me” time.
Below are 7 essentials I like to have for my pamper me days. I hope the simple list can help inspire you to put together your own spa day at home “pamper me” essentials.

1. Comfortable Wardrobe
The first essential I like to have for my pamper me days is comfortable wardrobe. Preferably a pretty robe or a pair of satin pajamas.
You know, something that makes me feel fancy.
2. Setting the Mood
If you live with other people like family, roommates, or a significant other, sometimes it can seem hard to find quite and alone time.
That’s why when I am finally able to have my place all to myself, I like to light a scented soy candle to help set a calming mood.
You can also play soft music to help set the mood. Something soothing like piano, instrumental, smooth jazz, or classical.
3. Beauty Treatments
The #1 beauty treatment I love to do for my pamper me days is a face mask. I like to use bentonite clay from Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Clay.
Since I have acne prone skin, after I do a face mask, I follow up with an oil to moisturize my skin.
I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil with a few drops of Rose Hip Seed Oil, which is good to tone and firm the skin.
Then I use a jade roller, which is said to help tone, sculpt, and firm the face. Not sure if that’s true, but it definitely feels nice!
During my spa day at home, I like to sip water throughout my diy treatments.
If you want to make a spa water, you can use mineral or sparkling water and add lemon, cucumber, or mint to make it super refreshing.
I also like to sip on some wine too!
Moscato or rose wine are always my preferred choices.
5. Light Lunch
What’s a spa day at home without a light meal?
I love charcuterie or cheese boards and I find them super chic.
However, since I am only making a light lunch for one, I keep my cheese plates small. I typically like to have prosciutto, cheese, crackers, olives, and grapes.
6. Indulgent Dessert
To top off my meal, I like to indulge in a dessert.
Cheesecake is my go-to dessert of course. However, I also love to have either a slice of rich chocolate cake, chocolate covered strawberries, or a tiramisu.
7. Self-Care Activity
To wrap up my pamper me spa day at home, I like to do a self-care activity.
There are a slew of self-care activities that one can do, but my favorite is journaling. I just find writing down my thoughts and affirmations very soothing and relaxing.
I am a big fan of affirmations and so, I like to write in a personalized journal that’s special to me.
Before I would write in a regular $.99 Cent Only Store notebook, which I still do, but for my affirmations where I am focused on creating the type of lifestyle I want, I use a special journal like a genuine leather journal as seen below.
