My 365 Day Shameless Promotion Challenge!

Today, March 1, 2020, I embarked on a 365 Day Shameless Promotion Challenge inspired by Shameless Maya, who has a YouTube channel and who did this challenge back in 2012.

Shameless Maya, whose real name is Maya Washington, wanted to see what would happen if she shamelessly promoted herself for 365 days as part of a social experiment. She documented her experiment on her YouTube channel and across all her social media pages and well..IT PAID OFF!

With over 1.1 million subscribers on her YouTube Channel, over 271,000 followers on her Instagram page, and over 55,000 followers on her Twitter page, Shameless Maya has built an online video empire where she created the exact lifestyle she wanted for herself.

Why Am I Doing The Challenge?

I saw Shameless Maya’s YouTube trailer over a year ago about her social experiment and I thought to myself, “Oh, this would be a cool thing to do,” but of course…I did nothing.

Now however, I am going to take on this challenge because I want to create a lifestyle that I truly desire too.

For me, that lifestyle means being a filmmaker and right now, my film career crush is Issa Rae.

Issa Rae also has a YouTube Channel and she got started back in 2011 with her hit web series Awkward Black Girl. The show has since been picked up by HBO now titled Insecure, and Issa Rae today is a bonafide celebrity where she stars in television shows, movies, and has her own production company.

Celebrity in a Year?

Now of course, I don’t expect to become a celebrity in 365 days (although it COULD happen-lol), but I do want to stop making excuses and finally actively pursue a career in film as an actress, producer, director, and writer.

I’m sure this challenge is going to be demanding because it’s real easy to take a photo and share it across all my social media platforms, but it’s not so easy to constantly make videos and upload them onto YouTube; especially as a one woman show.

On top of that, I would like all my content to be “synergized,” so my brand doesn’t look like it’s all over the place.

Yeah…that’s another thing.

What is My Brand Anyway?

Figuring out my brand is also going to be a bit of a challenge, but thus far, I hope to inspire people to go out there and create the life they want to live or become the person they want to be while enjoying their journey.

That’s my motto, right?

Live your life, honey…and enjoy the journey.

One day I plan to be on a movie poster too!!!

I know I’ve wasted so many years, too many years, not doing what I really want to do with my life and as a result, I did not become the woman I always wanted to be while I stood by and watched the success of other people’s careers come full circle.

I want to be a filmmaker.

I want to be rich.

I want to be famous.

And…I’m not going to apologize for it.

So, here I am at the very beginning of my challenge and I can’t wait to see my results.

I’m hoping the experiment can help me to network with the right people that will give me the opportunity to one day have a career like Issa Rae, so I too can star in television shows, movies, and own a film production company.

If all else fails, having an online video career like Shameless Maya works for me too!

Shoot…I want 1,000,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel-lol.
