While we all experience stress at some point in our lives, there are ways to deal with it that won’t cause emotional, physical, or psychological harm to our bodies or to the people around us.
So if you are feeling stressed about work, school, a divorce, parenting, your health, death of a loved one, etc., there are simple ways how to deal with stress, or at least manage stress, so it does not affect your day-to-day life.
Here are my 5 helpful tips on How to Deal with Stress that have been very helpful for me and hopefully, will help you too.
Exercise is a fantastic way to help with stress because when you workout out, your body releases endorphins, which is a chemical produced in the brain, that brings about a euphoric or “feel good” feeling.
These endorphins help to neutralized discomfort and are considered to be natural painkillers. So the next time you are feeling stressed or really overwhelmed, try to take some time out for yourself and do a little exercise.
It’s a great stress reliever and because there are so many benefits to exercise like burning calories, lowering blood pressure, increasing energy, decreasing the risk to diseases like stroke, heart disease, and cardiovascular diseases, etc., your overall health can improve.
Some exercises you can do to help how to deal with stress include jogging, hiking, yoga, swimming, bike riding, strength training, or a fitness program at home.
There are a ton of fitness videos on YouTube or you can sign up for workout challenges online like on Jillian Michael’s website or IdealFit.
Let’s face it. Our brains are always “ON” where it seems like everything around us is always fighting for our attention.
On top of that, people are bombarded with negative information, especially from the media, which can truly affect your overall well being.
It’s no wonder there are millions of people suffering from stress, insomnia, anxiety, and depression after hearing or watching what they saw on the news.
If you feel like your brain is running a mile a minute to the point you find it hard to wind down, concentrate, or worse, you feel like you are going to have a mental breakdown, try taking a break from social media and the news, and do your best to stay away from negative people.
I know when I start work on Mondays, I’m already salivating for Saturdays. Yeah…basically work stresses me out-lol.
One way how to deal with stress related to work for example, is to have something to look forward to either at the end of the work day or the weekend. It may sound silly, but it really does helps.
Plan a dinner date, a movie with friends, or an inexpensive day trip over the weekend. Figure out a way to distract yourself from a stress related situation like work, so you can focus on something that makes you feel happy and good.
I’m telling you, it works!
One of the best ways on how to deal with stress is to take a little “me time.” Go ahead get that massage, facial, or your hair done. If you don’t have the extra funds to get pampered by a professional, pamper yourself at home.
You can do your own DIY spa at home and give yourself a mani-pedi, a steam facial, or take a bubble bath. Heck, why not do all three?
Put on some light jazz or classical music and just relax.
While you are at it, don’t forget to make yourself a healthy lunch and sip on some DIY spa water to complete the whole DIY spa at home experience.
Don’t forget to laugh and do this A LOT!
Laughter is infectious and it really does help to brighten your mood. Not to mention, laughing is a great way to help distract yourself from the situation or thing that is causing you stress.
Call a friend, watch a funny movie (which is excellent btw), or play with your pet. The goal here is to get yourself in a good mood, which can help put you in a position to better deal with your problems. Having a clear head is much better than feeling that you can’t concentrate or can’t think straight.
So laugh and release some of that restless energy and remember…
BREATHE
Take things one-day-at-a-time and as my father would say “control your mind.” Meaning…don’t let your emotions get the best of you where you feel you don’t have any self control.
